Watch: Valentina Rossi’s Initiative Secures Malta’s National Anthem Day
27th December has been dedicated for Malta’s national anthem- an initiative that was started by none other than Maltese personality, Valentina Rossi.
Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government of Malta, Owen Bonnici, together with Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli, joined Rossi on a video call to reveal the news.
Bonnici recalled how in March of this year, Rossi together with her colleagues at Magic radio called Prime Minister Robert Abela live on air. During this call, Rossi proposed for Malta to have a day dedicated to our national anthem.
As Rossi remembered this moment, she talked about how she was inspired by other countries’ celebration of their national anthem.
“Our national anthem is something to be truly proud of. I remember that I used to sing it when I was in school but after I finished, I lost touch with it,” said Rossi.
The Prime Minister said he’d consider her proposal and Rossi didn’t hear about a follow up on her initiative until she was surprised by Bonnici and Zerafa Civelli.
Bonnici went on to say that before 27th December, this proposal will be taken to parliament. After discussions, it will form part of Malta’s constitution.
The date was chosen because in 1922, the national anthem was played for the first time.
Will you be celebrating?
