designMT hosted Malta’s first-ever design expo from 30th September to 5th October, offering a dynamic celebration of creativity that bridged the gap between tradition and contemporary design.

With exhibitions held across historic venues in Valletta, including the Auberge d’Aragon, Fortress Builders, St John’s Cavalier, and the Valletta Design Cluster, the event showcased a diverse collection of contemporary design pieces that emphasised both modern aesthetics and Malta’s rich cultural heritage.

The expo wasn’t just about showcasing designs—it served as a platform for engaging discussions among both leading and emerging designers. Topics ranged from the role of technology in shaping creative processes to how traditional design can coexist with modern innovation.

This made the event a key meeting point for dialogue on the future of design, providing valuable insights into how creativity can shape Malta’s cultural landscape and address challenges like sustainability.

Looking ahead, designMT will be followed by further initiatives aimed at building on the conversations and ideas generated during the expo.

Organised by the Malta Crafts Foundation in collaboration with Golden Glitch, designMT was supported by Arts Council Malta, Heritage Malta, the Industrial Property Registrations Unit, the Malta Digital Innovation Authority, and Visit Malta. Additional partners include Kamra tal-Periti, Spazju Kreattiv, and the Valletta Cultural Agency, who have all helped foster a continuous dialogue to help evolve Malta’s design scene.
