In a student initiative organised by Kamra tal-Periti,15 Palestinian architecture students from Birzeit University will take part in a 10-day workshop from 18th-28th July and collaborate to redesign misraħ Santa Marija.

The main objectives of this initiative are to “nurture international collaboration and offer practical urban design experience, aiming to enhance the communal and cultural landscape of Żejtun.”

The students will be working in a pop-up studio, and will be workshopping in an engaging and creative environment where they can interact with the community.

This project is backed by Malta’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture with critical coordination from the Embassy of Palestine.

Other local entities, like the Żejtun Local Council, Wirt iż-Żejtun and notable Maltese architects and academics from the government’s Restoration and Preservation Department are also involved in the project.

Alongside providing an educational experience to the students, this initiative seeks to strengthen Mediterranean relationships through collaborative architectural projects.
