999 Students Fail Maths: Malta Records Numerous 20%+ Failure Rates As O-Level Results Roll Out
The results for the O Level and A Level examinations have been released, drawing significant attention, particularly to the O Level outcomes, which present some concerning statistics.
Among the 1,349 students who took the O Level Biology exam, 373 failed, resulting in a failure rate of 27.65%.
The situation appears more troubling for English Language and Literature. Of the 4,519 students who sat for the English Language exam, 699 failed, giving a failure rate of 15.46%. English Literature saw even higher failure rates, with 700 out of 3,023 students failing, amounting to 23.15%.
Environmental Studies posed a significant challenge, with 643 out of 2,050 students failing, resulting in a failure rate of 31.36%.
The subjects with the highest number of failures were Physics, Maltese, and Mathematics. Physics had a failure rate of 25.73%, with 873 out of 3,393 students failing. Maltese saw a failure rate of 23.31%, with 925 out of 3,968 students failing. Mathematics had the highest number of failures, with 999 out of 4,622 students failing, resulting in a failure rate of 21.61%.
These statistics are troubling, indicating a potential decline in student performance over the years. The increasing failure rates highlight a need for a closer examination of the educational system and support structures in place to assist students in these critical subjects.
