The second edition of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs in Malta (AWE) has been launched to equip women with the knowledge, networks, and access needed to start and scale successful businesses.

“Women entrepreneurs are a growing market force and have a critical role to play in building dynamic, innovative economies. This is what the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs is all about,” U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Gwendolyn ‘Wendy’ Green said.

This global entrepreneurship program was initially implemented in Malta for the first time in 2021 to advance the local #BreaktheGlass initiative.

And this year, the U.S. Embassy has partnered with The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise, and Industry to implement the second iteration on the island of this global entrepreneurship program.

Meanwhile, the program supports the U.S. Department of State’s goal to advance women’s economic empowerment globally.

In fact, it has been utilised in more than 80 countries all over the world and helped over 16,000 women entrepreneurs around the world to expand their businesses and adapt to new economic realities resulting from the pandemic.

Participants of AWE will have the opportunity to engage in a competition which involves pitching business plans developed through the programs training for seed funding to invest in their ideas.

“I am incredibly proud to launch this global entrepreneurship program in Malta for the second year running following the great success of last year’s program,” Chargé Green explained.

She further noted that this year’s program attracted a larger cohort of women with a “love of innovation and dream to realise”.

On the other hand, President of The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise, and Industry Marisa Xuereb said “we want to continue to empower women in the entrepreneurial world and give them the necessary tools to succeed and grow in their own right.”

“The Malta Chamber partnered with the U.S. Embassy because we know the fundamental role that women in business can play for the growth of the economy and development of their wellbeing.”

An interview with a Maltese participant of the program showed her highly recommending it.

“I definitely don’t have any regrets. I met a lot of new people, thoroughly enjoyed it, and now I feel prepared in case I ever want to enlarge my business. I have all the tools necessary to do that and it’s fantastic,” she concluded.

The invitation to participate in the program began in July and interested participants had until fourth August to apply. AWE was officially launched yesterday with 80 women implemented in the program.
