Almost 50% Of Students Who Sat For Physics SEC Exam Failed Or Did Not Turn Up

Almost 50% of students who sat for their Physics SEC exam failed or did not show up for the exam.
Physics was the most failed science subject for the SEC 2025 exams. In comparison, Biology and Chemistry SEC exams had pass rates above 60%. Out of the 3,354 students that sat for their Physics exam, nearly 1 in 2 either failed or did not show up, with a pass rate of 50.7%.
This year’s SEC examinations saw an introduction of a School-Based Assessment (SBA) which accounted for 30% of the final mark. The other 70% was assessed via the traditional exam. The SBA assessed student performance over the last two years of secondary education and included different methods of assessments depending on the subject.
Minister for Education, Sports, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima, encouraged students who did not achieve the results they wanted to use the available support systems including the revision classes ahead of the September re-sits.
