‘Every Decision Was Taken Weeks Ago And He Knew,’ Education Ministry Says On MCAST Principal Sacking Reports
The Ministry of Education has stated that MCAST principal Joachim James Calleja was fully aware of the “decisions made weeks ago”.
“With reference to the various reports on the management of MCAST, the Ministry clarifies that every decision on this was taken weeks ago and there was also communication on this subject with Prof. James Joachim Calleja,” a spokesperson told Lovin Malta following reports that Calleja was aware that his contract was not being renewed but was unaware that he was being sacked.
“The Ministry thanks Professor Calleja who is the longest Principal who has served in the management of MCAST and under whom progress has been made on various aspects related to the college.”
From the ministry’s response, it is unclear whether Calleja is being fired or if his contract is simply not being renewed – in the case of the former, it’s assumed that he will not be finishing the school term which ends in August.
Lovin Malta asked the ministry when Calleja’s tenure ends and the newsroom is awaiting a response.
