Looking for a unique way to celebrate Carnival this year? Esplora has got you covered! From 1st to 4th March, the interactive science centre will be hosting the second edition of KartaFesta—a celebration of creativity, sustainability, and tradition.

This year’s event is all about rediscovering old-school skills that are slowly fading away. From mending clothes to writing heartfelt letters by hand, visitors will have the chance to get hands-on with activities that showcase the beauty of sustainability.

You’ll even get to create your very own paper and learn the intricate techniques behind crafting Malta’s iconic Carnival floats!

A Packed Schedule of Fun and Learning!

Here’s what you can look forward to at KartaFesta:

  • Sounds Amazing (All Ages) – Ever wondered how sound is made and why instruments produce different tones? This interactive science show will take you on a journey through the magic of sound, demonstrating how it travels and changes. Get ready to create your own musical instruments and dive into the fascinating world of acoustics!

  •  DIY Paper-Making (6+) – Why waste paper when you can make new sheets from old ones? This hands-on workshop will teach you and your kids how to recycle used paper into fresh pages, proving that sustainability can be both fun and creative.

  • Code-a-Parade (5+) – Get into the Carnival spirit with this tech-savvy workshop! Using the Matata Talebot, kids will code and build their own miniature carnival floats, navigating them through a virtual parade route. It’s a perfect blend of technology, creativity and festive fun!

  • Let’s See Colour (2-3 years) – Bring your little ones for a storytelling adventure with Henry the Hedgehog as he discovers colours for the first time! This interactive workshop combines playful storytelling, colourful shadows and imaginative exploration to keep the youngest minds engaged.

  • RestawraKarru (5+) – Help bring Esplora’s very own Carnival float to life! This drop-in activity invites kids to explore the fascinating world of papier-mâché, where they’ll use layering techniques to craft and decorate parts of the float. A perfect way to get hands-on with one of Malta’s most iconic traditions!

  • Sewwi Biċċa (6+) – No more throwing away clothes with missing buttons or tiny holes! This workshop will teach basic sewing skills to help kids and parents mend their favourite pieces, encouraging sustainable fashion habits from an early age.
