The University of Malta’s Kids on Campus programme took a big step forward this summer, with children attending the first-ever life-saving skills workshops organised by Child Educare Services, the University’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), and the Office for Human Resources Management and Development (HRMD).

The sessions introduced kids to basic emergency response skills in a fun, interactive, and age-appropriate way.

Led by ERT members Thomas Xuereb, Mario Delicata, and Mark Delicata, the workshops featured hands-on demonstrations covering choking, burns, CPR awareness, and how to respond to common emergencies.

Children were encouraged to get involved throughout, actively practicing the skills under expert guidance.

Organisers said the goal was to empower children early, giving them confidence while fostering a sense of responsibility that could last a lifetime.

Given the success of this pilot run, the University is now looking into making the workshops a regular part of future Kids on Campus programmes.

The initiative reflects the University’s commitment to safety, wellbeing, and community engagement, proving that it’s never too early to learn the skills that might one day save a life.
