Glenn Micallef Appointed Malta’s EU Commissioner
Glenn Micallef has been confirmed as the EU Commissioner for Youth, Intergenerational Justice, Sport, and Culture, making him the youngest member of the newly approved College of European Commissioners. This marks a significant milestone in Micallef’s career and highlights Malta’s continued role in shaping European policy at the highest level.
The European Parliament approved the new 27-member College of Commissioners, representing all EU member states, during a plenary session in Strasbourg on Wednesday. The vote saw 370 in favor, 282 against, and 36 abstentions.
The commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen in her second term as President of the European Commission, will officially begin its five-year mandate on 1st December. Micallef’s portfolio will focus on issues critical to young people, cross-generational justice, and cultural development across the EU.
