‘I Couldn’t Give My Support To Metsola’: Alex Agius Saliba Abstains From Voting
Labour MEP Alex Agius Saliba has abstained from voting in the presidential election of the European Parliament because he “couldn’t give his support to Metsola”.
Agius Saliba explained on social media that he couldn’t vote for either candidate. He didn’t vote for Metsola because she has “acted against” principles that are important to him, while he decided against voting for Irene Montero because she also has different priorities, namely the desire for abortion to be imposed as a right in every member state.
“During a news conference that will be held tomorrow with the Maltese journalists present in Strasbourg I will be giving my reasons in more detail,” he concluded.
Currently, the ballots are being counted to determine who will take the seat as president. If there isn’t a clear winner, the MEPs will vote again.
Do you think Agius Saliba made the right decision?
