MEP Daniel Attard Appointed Member Of Security And Defence Committee
Labour MEP Daniel Attard has been officially appointed to the Committee on Security and Defence (SEDE) on behalf of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) Group.
“The presence of a Maltese voice in this forum is essential to ensure that the EU’s pursuit of strategic objectives respects Malta’s national interests and constitutional neutrality,” Attard said in a statement shared by the Labour Party.
This committee, now a permanent standing body of the European Parliament, is set to tackle the EU’s most pressing security challenges in a rapidly shifting global landscape.
This appointment marks an important milestone for Attard, increasing his responsibilities within the EP by entrusting him with advancing both national and European interests.
Beyond his role on the SEDE Committee, the Maltese MEP retains key positions in critical sectors directly tied to security priorities, including transport, tourism, energy, and industry.
These areas intersect with pressing concerns such as energy security, safeguarding critical infrastructure, and ensuring the safe movement of goods and people across borders.
In light of his new role, Attard pledged to utilise this position to advocate effectively for Maltese and Gozitan interests within EU policy making, ensuring Malta’s unique perspectives are heard in debates on European security and defence.
