MEP Thomas Bajada, spoke up during a topical debate, voicing his ongoing concern regarding the EU Green Deal’s perception of small states and islands.

Bajada addressed the European Parliament in Strasbourg this evening, during its last plenary session of the year where the need for an impact assessment on the Green Deal policies was discussed.

“Impact assessments are a critical tool, yet they often fall short from reflecting Malta’s specific realities: our limited space and resources, our reliance on importation by air and sea, and our exposure to external shocks,” Bajada opened.

In his first comments to Lovin Malta as MEP back when he was elected, Bajada explained that the European Commission’s impact assessments do not accurately reflect small nations, a fact he is set on improving.

“I call for comprehensive and fair assessments, created for each Member State, in order to truly reflect the realities of that country,” he continued.

Bajada closed by addressing the Commissioner directly, emphasising that the Maltese population feels a sense of neglect during important topics amidst larger nations.

“Let us build a Europe with a future which is sustainable and competitive, where no one is left behind,” Bajada closed.
