Watch: ‘Stop Being Accomplices To Genocide’ – MEPs Boo EP President Candidate Irene Montero’s Opening Speech

Presidential candidate of the European Parliament Irene Montero was booed in her opening speech where she called for an end “to the genocide against the Palestinian people, as well as a green and feminist Europe.”

At this point, a portion of MEPs, presumably those aligning with the far-right, booed her.

Montero followed Metsola who opened it with an empowering speech calling for a parliament with effective legislative power. The Spanish contender used a different tone, when she called for Europe to “stop being an accomplice to Netanyahu’s genocide”.

“Why dont we impose sanctions on Netanyahu like we do on Putin?” she asked.

Montero continued to allege hypocrisy on the centre-right part of the chamber, saying many “defend the cordon sanitarie against the right, yet are rolling the carpet for them.”

“We need to build a Europe based on rights.”

She called for less militarisation, for peace, for more human and green rights before making a reference Simone Debouvire and saying that its crucial that Europe make progress on feminism.
