Watch: ‘Your Country Will Not Face This Alone’, Roberta Metsola Pledges To Greece In Urgent Meeting Amid Deadly Floods
One of the first things on European Parliament President Roberta Metsola’s agenda this morning was welcoming Greek prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Strasbourg ahead of an urgent meeting amid the devastating floods which have hit his country which have already claimed the lives of 15 people and left hundreds homeless.
“In the worst of times, the people of Greece will see the best of Europe,” Metsola told the prime minister on social media shortly following their meeting. “Your country will not face this situation alone. All of Europe stands ready to join efforts. We will deliver aid, funding and expertise as needed. We are in this together.”

This week sees the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen delivering the State of the European Union (SOTEU) to discuss with MEPs what the commission has done over the years, as well as its vision for the future.
A press briefing addressing the expectations of the debates was led today by the President of the EP Roberta Metsola who gave a quick and concise overview of the union’s priorities, with climate change clearly being top of the agenda after what Metsola called “a summer that has ravaged Europe and its neighbouring regions with natural disasters.”
