Looking for a wholesome free family day out? The Energy and Water Agency (EWA) has just announced the sixth edition of the Għajn Open Weekend, happening at the Għajn National Water Conservation Awareness Centre in Rabat. It is free entry with on-site parking.

Mark your calendars:

Saturday 13th September – 4pm to 10pm
Sunday 14th September – 10am to 5pm

What’s On This Year?

Expect two action-packed days with something for everyone:

  • Craft and painting workshops for the kids
  • Live theatre performances and mascot meet-and-greets with Drago and Zoe
  • A special historical show of arms and reenactment tied to this year’s theme, The Fairly Hydrated Knight
  • Interactive games and activities that teach practical water-saving tips

Last year’s event drew over 600 visitors, and organisers say this edition is set to be even bigger.

Why Għajn?

If you’ve ever wondered, the word għajn means “spring” or “water source” in Maltese, a perfect name for a centre dedicated to water conservation and sustainability.

Since opening in 2017, the Għajn Centre has been running interactive programmes, workshops and tours for students across Malta, making sustainability education hands-on and fun.

Don’t Miss It!

Whether you’re keen to keep the little ones busy, catch a unique historical reenactment, or just enjoy some fresh air in Rabat, the Għajn Open Weekend 2025 is the place to be.

So, whether you’re heading down for the crafts, the mascots, or to learn a few new water-saving tricks, Għajn Open Weekend promises fun for the whole family.
