Watch: Alex Borg Says Families Need Time, Not Just Tax Relief

In a video statement released on Friday, Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg said that parents in Malta should be given not only the financial means but also the time and social space to raise their children.
Borg was reacting to measures announced in the 2026 Budget by Finance Minister Clyde Caruana, which included proposals for tax reductions for parents. While describing the measure as “not a bad idea,” Borg said that genuine family support goes beyond financial incentives.
“Many parents work from early in the morning to late into the evening,” Borg said. “Bringing kids into the world is not a national duty or a financial transaction.”
The PN leader emphasised that families need a society that respects their role and allows them to spend meaningful time together. He said that, for the Nationalist Party, the family remains the foundation of society.
“Parents should have a society that gives them the space and time to enjoy their children,” Borg said. “For us, the family is the core of society.”
Borg’s comments come as part of the PN’s ongoing response to the government’s Budget 2026 measures, which the Opposition has said lack long-term social and economic vision.
