Watch: ‘Feel The Real Malta’ – Check Out The First Half Of A Mini-Series All About The Islands’ Beauty And Diversity

We all know how beautiful the Maltese Islands are, but beyond the gorgeous landmarks, this tiny rock in the middle of the Mediterranean boasts a rich culture, spirit and beauty. And what better way to experience it all than through the eyes of locals?

Blessed, a new documentary mini-series produced by Homega and shot and edited by Dutch Studios, promises to be just that.

From a glimpse into the lives of individuals who call the island home to an intimate look at their journeys and passions, the series captures what makes Malta so special.

“One of our teammates said the reason she decided to move here was because everyone she meets seems so happy and successful, no matter what they do for work,” producer Renae Neumann said of the project during its launch last month. “We found that the term ‘blessed’ best fits that sentiment.”

And the best part of it all? Three of the mini-series’ six episodes are available to watch right now!

1. It all kicks off with Lio Elián Abdala, an ex-footballer from Argentina who found a new passion in padel… and Malta

After moving to Malta from Italy, Abdala ended up becoming a driving force in the island’s bursting padel scene, which only keeps getting more and more popular.

“Lio’s journey is a testament to resilience, growth, and the beauty of finding purpose in unexpected places,” Homega said of his inspiring story.

“I think it’s a good place to start a new adventure,” Abdala. “It was a big change, but the truth is that today I’m happy to be here. The weather is incredible, the people live very calm, very well.”

2. Next up: Fabrice Bonello DuPuis, who takes free diving to a whole other level in Gozo

Yes, literally. Because what better way is there to explore the beautiful depths of the sister island than with someone who’s known for his calm focus and incredible breath control?

Follow Fabrice down into the azure depths, as he talks about his passion, how it relaxes him… and shows off some drop-dead gorgeous underwater spots many might have not released are hiding right beneath us.

“It’s that electric blue that you see, I don’t see it anywhere else,” Fabrice said of the unique views in Gozo. “I’ve been to quite a few countries and nothing compares to that blue.”

3. Finally, Tiziana Ohana brings a whole lot of vibrant energy and colour to the islands… all with the power of flowers

Having lived and worked in Mexico, Tiziana was always creative, but never really knew what to do with it. She then discovered she was good at turning individuals flowers into big and beautiful arrangements that turn special days into unforgettable ones.

“Anything that you do in Malta, if you do it right, it works,” Tiziana says, smiling as she talks about her passion.

But these are just half of the stories Homega have lined up, and the mini-series resumes tomorrow!

And Blessed is hitting the waves for its fourth episode, taking a deep dive into Malta’s unexpected surf culture with two unique individuals.

Malta Surf School’s charismatic founder Valerio Cicconi and BOMBA Surf Magazine’s Mark “Stribe” Strijbosch take centre stage tomorrow, pulling back the curtain on an unexpected culture which is often overshadowed in Malta.

Under the radar, surf enthusiasts make the most of the islands’ glorious beaches… and Blessed is here to tell their story against our unique Mediterranean backdrop.
