We all know that the south is Malta’s most underrated food district. Sure enough, some people might say otherwise – but they’re completely wrong. Here’s a list of 15 stellar restaurants to prove it:

1. Tal-Petut, Birgu 

Perfect for a large group of friends as you can get a separate room to yourselves. Plus you’re guaranteed a feast of fresh Maltese food, as all produce is either home grown or sourced locally. 

2. Osteria.Ve, Birgu

This Venetian restaurant in the backstreets of Birgu is different to the usual Maltese dining experience, mostly because it isn’t run by the Maltese. We’ve heard their Tiramisu is a must have!

3. Terrone, Marsaxlokk

Great place to enjoy the seaside view, fresh seafood and cocktails. 

4. Enchante, Senglea

Sitting right on the waters edge, you can enjoy a varied selection of fresh fish, grills, pasta and pizza with reasonable prices.

5. Bongo Nyah, Marsaskala

If you’re looking for something different, this is the place to go! They’ve got a wide range of burgers and cocktails, plus a super chilled vibe with a stunning sunset view. You should try go when there’s a live music or stand up comedy night.

6. Del Borgo, Birgu

A sweet little wine bar with delicious platters and a fantastic wine list. They also serve a few interesting dishes, such as pasta with rabbit livers and mushroom ravioli. Date night anyone?

7. Grabiel, Marsaskala

The classic go to restaurant for all those seafood lovers.

8. The Londoners Pub, SmartCity

Craving pub food, burgers and cocktails? Then head down to Sky Parks and check out the epic fountain in the meantime. 

9. Nargile Lounge & Restaurant, Marsaskala

A popular restaurant covering all types of Indian, Arabian and Mediterranean cuisine. It’s got a great atmosphere which celebrates the diversity of cultures.

Tal-Familja specialises in Mediterranean and Maltese cuisine and is particularlly known for their seafood dishes. As the name suggests, all the family is involved in running the restaurant, which makes you feel right at home.

This seafood restaurant is brought to you by the owners of Tartarun. Their menu is to die for and they even have gluten-free dishes!

12. La Capanna, Marsaxlokk

An authentic fish restaurant with a great value for money. So many delicious choices!

13. Ferretti, Birżebbuġa

This place is perfect for all occasions – quick platter to share over a glass of wine, or pizza baked in a traditional wood-burning pizza oven, or a romantic dinner? Serving a selection of Mediterranean cuisine, from meat to fresh fish, pasta and pizza, you’re bound to find something you like. 

14. Chukkas, Marsa

For all you meat lovers out there, this place is the one for you.
