When the end of the weekend comes around it’s safe to say most of us have shrugged off our gung-ho attitude towards spending, but still find it hard to say no to a meal out with friends or family.

Well, the solution is simple – just pick a place which won’t break the bank and make sure you stick to your budget. Here’s a few ideas of where you can get a meal for under €20 in Malta.

1. Il-Barri – Mġarr

Famous for rabbit and other home-grown cooking – a signature rabbit dish at Il-Barri with trimmings will only set you back €11.20. Split a bottle of wine and you’re laughing.

2. Ta’ Nenu – Valletta

If all you can afford is a ftira, make sure it’s a delicious artisanal one. This traditional Valletta bakery has been converted into a family restaurant serving amazing local food. You can get an epic ftira from just €6.50.

3. KuYa Asian Pub – Paceville

This hidden gem changes its menu regularly, but its mouth-watering Asian meals rarely exceed €12. And you can rinse that bargain down with some yummy Japanese craft beer.

4. Cafe Jubilee – Gżira, Valletta, Gozo

This place is your go-to if you want to pay under €10 for a plate of ravjul which taste like they’ve been kneaded with love instead of flour.

5. Ġugar – Valletta

A vegetarian friendly kitchen with vegan and gluten-free options – all without breaking the bank (mostly under €10), and in a great, cosy setting.

6. Good Thaimes – Gżira

If you’re up for some inexpensive Thai food, this unpretentious hangout is perfect for a budget night out. Bar-come-restaurant, main courses stay within a €10 budget. Good times indeed.

7. Blue Cave Bar & Restaurant – Żurrieq

If your craving for seafood pasta has taken over your very being but you think you can’t actually afford it – think again. Żurrieq is calling with dishes of the porcini and vongole risotto variety at less than €12.
