Article Featured Image

A Sunday roast is one of the best ways to get ready for those Monday Blues coming your way. Whether beef, pork, lamb or chicken is your preferred option as the roast centrepiece, you can’t beat a perfectly roasted slab of tender meat and golden potatoes doused in gravy.

Last year, we wrote a list of 11 places to get your Sunday roast fix but as a Brit, I took it upon myself to hunt for some others of the traditional kind.

If you’ve never tried a proper Sunday roast before, you don’t know what you’re missing. So where in Malta is the roast that’s doing the most? Well, these nine eateries are a great place to start.

1. Rusty Spoon, St Paul’s Bay

Rusty Spoon’s roasts are legit Brit style. For only €10 (including a glass of wine), you get your piece of meat (cooked perfectly) with all the trimmings including fresh seasonal vegetables, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding, crispy roast potatoes, mash and gravy.

Their fluffy yet crisp Yorkshire puddings are to die for.

2. The Corner Cafe, St Paul’s Bay

The Sunday roasts at The Corner Cafe are excellent value for money, authentically-British and have great portion sizes.

For only €9, you’ll get to feast on beef, pork or chicken served with sweet potato mash, roast potatoes, fresh seasonal veg, gravy and Yorkshire pudding.

3. Step Down Bar, Sliema

Step Down’s Sunday roasts sell out every week and it’s not hard to see why.

They serve either cornfed chicken, lamb or beef (depends on the day) and is served with all the trimmings!

Everything is freshly-prepared.

Simple and filling.

The traditional Sunday roast at New Sun City Bar costs only €8.75 and it’s a roast an British nan would be proud.

5. The Three Crowns – Splash, Buġibba

Get your mitts on The Three Crowns’ Sunday roast for the bargain price of €8. It comes with all the usual traditional trimmings plus the added bonus of mashed potatoes.

6. Lija Boċċi Clubhouse, Lija

Every Sunday (from 12pm – 3pm), step inside Lija Boċċi Clubhouse for a carvery buffet costing €17.50.

I don’t actually know how traditional it is but hey, it’s a carvery buffet which includes roast meats!

7. The Dubliner, St Julian’s

This Irish Pub’s Sunday roast is highly recommended by many.

Although they’re not currently doing any at the moment, they advised to check back in a few weeks or so as they are planning on bringing them back.

It’ll be worth the wait. The Irish take their roasts seriously!

I wouldn’t feel right not including the two we previously recommended last year because they’re just too awesome…

8. The Scotsman Pub, St Julian’s

The Sunday roast at this traditional pub is popular with Brit expats and locals alike. You get a choice of three meats (you can get a mix of each), and all the trimmings at under €10.

9. The Londoner British Pub, Kalkara

The Londoner is definitely the kinda pub you’ll find in London and the roasts are authentic.

Expect the whole she-bang of trimmings and succulent meats doused in rich gravy. This place is always packed and they deserve it.

So round up your troops and get your roast on.
