Buġibba Restaurant Forced To Close Down Mere Weeks After Launch Following Collapse From Neighbouring Property

Number VI, a new restaurant in Buġibba we raved about a few weeks ago, was forced to close down less than a month after opening due to suffering grave damages involving the collapse of a parapet concrete wall from the seventh floor of a neighbouring property.

The huge collapse of the concrete block partially brought down a concrete slab on the first floor as well as various other concrete and wood canopies and structures.

“Our staff is sitting at home, waiting”

The restaurant’s internal courtyard suffered unprecedented damages linked to plumbing, HVAC and water systems (to name a few) and their front entrance’s canopy was severely damaged.

The restaurant’s co-owner Antonio Martino Prosperi said “We consider ourselves very lucky to have survived and that no one was seriously injured or lost his life.”

“The situation right now is even adding more to our misery as apart from being forcefully shut down, there is a serious water infiltration causing more damages as we go along,” Antonio said.

“I am morally and emotionally hurt and shaken”

The damage was allegedly caused due to the negligence of the neighbouring property during the storm on January 14th 2019.

Restaurant VI had promised to bring a new dining concept to Malta which included a €38 daily-changing six course tasting menu, a Bring Your Own Wine concept and the lack of a freezer to ensure consistently fresh dishes.

“Everyone is moving and we hope to reopen as soon as we possibly can. Our staff is sitting at home waiting and we simply want our promising start-up back as before and thank the angels that no injuries or casualties were announced at or near our restaurant,” the young co-owner told Lovin Malta.

“It is the enforced closure of a young and successful start-up start and the beginning a long saga,” he finished. “I am morally and emotionally hurt and shaken.”

The restaurant hopes to re-open as soon as they can.

Here’s hoping Number VI makes a swift return to Malta’s restaurant scene!
