Can You Guess What Malta’s Ultimate $1 Food Is According To Buzzfeed?
Millions of people from all around the world make up the Buzzfeed community, a growing online group of people connected through their desire to share information and curiosities from their home countries. Last week, the community was asked to weigh in to talk about that age-old favourite food, and Malta’s contribution was as classic as you’d expect.
In an effort to compile a list of the best food that $1 (or its equivalent) buys you in different countries around the world, Buzzfeed asked their community for some input. The result was a list of 23 different countries, and the ultimate cheap food from each.
It’s amazing to see the sheer variety on display; from an entire meal of chicken porridge, meatballs and noodles in Indonesia to one frozen Coke in New Zealand.
The food ranged from a slice of iconic New York pizza to 67 pieces of bubble gum from Indonesia
Lo and behold, the pastizz was Malta’s prized representative
Of course, the iconic pastry (pictured in my personal favourite version, the classic ricotta one) was always bound to be one of the more suggested choices for a $1 meal in Malta, but it seems like it won hands down.
Interestingly (read: sadly) enough, some countries offer up a little bit more bang for your buck.
Apart from the previously-mentioned Indonesia (the full meal, not the gum collection), $1 can get you two whole meals at an Indian roadside eatery, four pretzels at a Romanian bakery or 17 bananas in Mexico. And that’s without mentioning a huge plate of breakfast (including coffee) from The Netherlands.
Still; give us our oily, savoury, cheesy, crumbling, fattening pastizz any day of the week.
