Deep Fried Heaven: Malta Is Getting Its Very First Panzerotti Eatery And Mamma Mia Take Our Money
By the end of May, you’ll be able to visit a street food take-out joint entirely dedicated to panzerotti for the first time in Malta. And it’s all thanks to Ciccio Panzerotti located in Msida, near the Junior College!
Panzewhat?
If you don’t know what panzerotti are, they’re deep fried crescent shaped pockets of dough filled with various (usually savoury) ingredients (like you’d have on a pizza).
It is a typical dish you’d find in Southern Italy (especially Puglia). But do not confuse it with its calzone cousin though; there are a few differences.
Ciccio Panzerotti will offer many kinds of panzerotti with different shapes and ingredients. They promise that everything will be completely authentic and handmade.
Fillings include the classic (mozzarella, tomato sauce and oregano), a special with mozzarella, pistachio and mortadella, and they will also have a sweet kind stuffed with Nutella and crumbled cookies.
Customers will be able to choose their favourite panzerotti from the counter, then have them deep fried right in front of their eyes.
”We’ve handpicked the top ingredients mainly from Puglia for our fillings, and mainly all our pastry and fillings are produced and harvested by our partner in Italy,” CEO Miki Laguardia told Lovin Malta.
”Malta is a great country with beautiful people, which is why we will open our first franchising shop here in Malta. By the end of this year, we will have our second outlet in Europe, a partnership agreement that we are probably closing down in the coming days.”
