In 2016, the idea to start a new online media platform focused on what modern Maltese readers really wanted – insightful analysis, breaking news and relatable fun content – was born.

Six years later, and Lovin Malta is both humbled and grateful that over half a million people follow and subscribe to our feed on various platforms – no matter where in the world they are.

As Lovin Malta launches an entirely new project that will see our latest headlines streamed across public transport screens across the island in collaboration with Streetmedia, it’s the perfect time for a look back at each individual platform’s growth, and what it means for the businesses that work for us, and of course, the essential readers.

Six years of breaking news, impactful journalism, in-depth documentaries, social campaigns, major interviews and delicious food.

Millions of monthly views over seven unique platforms featuring tailor-made content for each – here’s a breakdown of the numbers.

1. Without a doubt, Facebook and Instagram remain the main platforms for news and content consumption across Malta and Gozo.

With 285,000 followers on Facebook and another 140,000 on Instagram, Lovin Malta’s pages on these platforms have proven themselves to be unmissable “must-follows” if you are at all interested in Malta, whether you are a local or just visiting.

Breaking news, relatable content, compelling documentaries, political interviews – there’s a clear reason these platforms get so much engagement every single day.

Beyond getting incredible engagement day-to-day, they are among the strongest Maltese platforms for businesses or activists to get their voice and message out to tens of thousands of people.

2. And Lovin Malta’s newest platform on TikTok has seen major growth over the last few years, with 57,300 followers tuning in on the regular.

Be it local takes on international news or memes, political snippets from Parliament or behind the scenes looks at some of our top productions, the LM TikTok page caters for a younger, hungrier audience keen on consuming content regularly and consistently.

The tailor-made content from our incredible Digital Team means that the content is relevant, relatable and perfectly suited for Maltese readers.

3. Twitter and LinkedIn remain key platforms for insightful debate for Lovin Malta with 11,800 and 7,600 followers on each respectively.

With an interest in hosting introspective guest columns or opinion pieces from third parties, these platforms often become ground-zero for open discussions on the future of the island.

From environmental analyses to political critiques and everything in between, anyone interested in current affairs is sure to make these platforms a daily visit.

4. When it comes to breaking news, Lovin Malta’s WhatsApp channel is a one-stop-shop for the latest stories.

With 4,000 subscribers, Lovin Malta’s WhatsApp subscription list has become an essential platform to keep up with the hottest and biggest stories from the island.

No matter the time or day, subscribers will be kept informed on the latest, up-to-the-minute news. If you want to know what’s going on in Malta but don’t have the time to scroll through feeds, then WhatsApp is the platform for you.

5. And when it comes to original documentaries or series, compelling human interest features and riveting interviews and debates, Lovin Malta’s YouTube page captures an entirely different audience.

With just under 4,000 subscribers on the video platform, it’s the place to be for creative video content from the island.

From original series Kaxxaturi and Lovin Eats to long-form interviews with major politicians and businessmen, you can get lost for endless hours enjoying LM’s video productions.

In six years, Lovin Malta’s changed the island’s online media landscape – and we have big plans for the next chapter of the brand.

Remaining relevant, consistent, trustworthy and reliable will always be key priorities for the entire team. While recognising that there’s always room to grow and improve, now is as good a time as ever to look back at all that’s been achieved – and all that is to come.
