First Food Waste Prevention App Has Just Landed In Malta

Malta is set to welcome its first food waste prevention app that’s designed to connect food retailers with consumers that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.

Launching a significant effort to provide food security, facilitate affordability, and reduce waste, Globble is changing the way we shop.

Globble is available on both Android and iOS and it aims to sell great food at a great price. Doing this will also contribute to the global momentum of the climate movement and save consumers and merchants money.

The brainchild of Mr Jex, Globble is set to spark a food-waste revolution in the country.

Mr Jex explains ‘The main concept behind the app is sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint of merchants and customers. We live in a time where we understand we must take care of the world around us, but we need to focus on our own food and economic security as well.’

Every year, each person in Malta generates 62kg of food waste, which leads to increased greenhouse gas emissions, overburdened landfill, and wasted money. Plus, around 84% of food waste in the European Union comes from households, restaurants, food service, retail, and distribution.

In hopes to solve the problem, or at least helping reduce it, Globble seeks to connect those who want to buy food with those who would throw it away.

There are many reasons why food gets thrown away by retailers. Between incorrectly processed orders, failures to collect items, items approaching their sell-by date, or products simply not looking crisp enough.

As a result, tonnes of perfectly edible food never fulfil their purpose and instead gets dumped.

At the same time, consumers are struggling with increased prices for various food items, with many families at risk of being unable to provide healthy and balanced meals.

How does this food waste prevention app work?

Retailers simply sign up to Globble to sell food that cannot be sold for full price in their stores, restaurants, or anything in between. This food will be sold at a heavily discounted price, meaning you and I can get a healthy meal for a bargain.

Shoppers will create an account with Globble and use it to snap up great deals on every kind of food product.

Jex said, ‘Malta is a small country, and there simply isn’t an infinite amount of space for waste to continue to be dumped at this rate. We need to find a solution, and I believe the Globble can be a big part of that both in helping to change attitudes towards food, but also to make us more aware of what and how we are consuming.’

Globble also offers a Mystery Box with a random assortment of goodies from each retailer. Plus, the Hot Deal section will offer a quick sale of misplaced, double, or wrongly placed orders at amazingly low prices.

The app is available for download from both Google Play and the App Store. Consumers make use of the platform for free, while retailers only need to pay a nominal fee to snag their spot on the app.

‘Saving the planet doesn’t have to be hard work. If all of us do our part as much as we can and actively seek to change our daily habits for the better, we will soon start to see a difference,’ Jex concluded.

So, if you own an eatery or supermarket, and you would like to join the fight, then do not hesitate to get in touch with the team of Globblemalta.com.
