Grape Harvest Kicks Off In Malta And Gozo

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights, Anton Refalo, officially opened this year’s grape harvest season for wine production. As in previous years, the harvest began with the early varieties Chardonnay and Moscato, and will continue with other types in the coming weeks.
“This season is a testament to the commitment and dedication of our farmers, who work tirelessly to bring out the best from our land. Maltese and Gozitan wine is not only an agricultural product but also part of our national identity and a major attraction for visitors,” said Minister Refalo.
Minister Refalo emphasised that the grape harvest is a reminder of the vital role farmers play in creating distinctive and highly valued Maltese and Gozitan wines. He noted that, despite yearly challenges, the final product consistently stands out for its quality.
He added that the government, through the newly established Directorate of Research and Advisory Services within the Ministry and the Agriconnect service, continues to provide farmers with research-based guidance and tools to strengthen their competitiveness and resilience.
“This support is essential to preserve and further enhance a sector that contributes not only to our economy but also to Malta’s cultural identity,” he said.
The Minister concluded by thanking all farmers and producers involved in winemaking and wished them a successful harvest season.
