Recently awarded Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, the ftira has been recognised for continuity of intercultural exchange and fostering shared identity in Malta, and that’s exactly what this documentary is all about! 

Historically, bakers worked with wood burning ovens without temperature gauges and they would use scrap pieces of dough to determine if the oven is hot enough to cook their Maltese loaves. This piece of dough evolved into the ftira we know and love today.
