Here Are Malta’s 9 Best Gluten-Free Eateries

Gluten is a problem for many people. It could be you, your partner, or a friend, but knowing about a few gluten-free restaurants is sure to come in handy.
Plus, impressing a new date with your knowledge of GF places when they tell you they are gluten-intolerant is going to score you muchos brownie points.
Here are nine places to get your gluten-free fix in Malta – and what you can get when you visit them.
Everything
The Boathouse
This Qawra restaurant is one of the few restaurants in Malta that has a full gluten-free menu. And we aren’t just talking salads and pasta – how about GF dumplings and spring-rolls, and a host of other delectable Asian foods?

Pizza
Piccolo Padre
Piccolo Padre is a classic restaurant on the Sliema front that serves some incredible GF pizza. They cook their pizza in a proper wood oven, to maxmise the flavour, and they also serve GF pasta – but why go for that when you can go for pizza?

Palio’s
Palio’s in Paceville offers a very large list of GF pizza with some really tasty ingredients. They also offer pasta dishes, but a word of advice – avoid going on a Sunday evening or be prepared for large Maltese families and loud TVs showing sports games.

Wood and Coal
This steak and pizza restaurant run by award winning pizzaiolo Gilbert Portelli is perfect for anyone looking for gluten or lactose-free meals.
Not only that but you can expect a very crispy bite and an incredible aftertase, which is rare in gluten-free pizzas.

Pasta
Pastaus
As the name implies, this place is all about the pasta. But they also offer alternate forms of pasta, as well as some of the funkiest sauces this side of Italy. Their dedication to quality pasta means that if you want a proper plate of GF pasta, this is the place to go to.

Eat Me I’m Famous
Sexy Time – chicken bacon creme
Eat Me I’m Famous might be most famous for their tasty takeaway pizzas and meals, but they actually serve an incredible bowl of GF pasta. Make sure to order the “Sexy Time”, which featured chicken and bacon in a white creme sauce.

Bread/Burger
Cafe Cuba
The perfect place for brunch, their GF buns mean that you can order nearly any of their tasty breakfast and lunch items without any of that annoying protein.
Order the Eggs Guevara for a very special morning – 2 poached eggs served on toasted half bun with sautéed mushrooms, white truffle cream and parmesan shavings. Damn!

Just Burger
A Swedish take on the American classic, Just Burger also delivers their fresh Gluten-Free Burgers right to your door. You don’t even need to step outside the house to get a tasty GF burger anymore.

Tacos
Frida
Unfortunately, most places serving tacos in Malta will serve you a wheat-based tortilla wrap. Not Frida though – they go back to their Mexican roots and use a corn-based wrap instead. Tasty, and culturally appropriate.
