Pastizzi Power: Malta Ranks Among Top 100 Cuisines Globally

Timpana, mqaret, ftajjar and so much more. Malta’s cuisine is hearty, comforting, and just plain delicious. So much so that it’s officially been ranked among the top 100 cuisines in the world.
Malta landed a respectable 84th place, just behind Montenegro and ahead of Libya, all securing a score of 3.95 out of 5. Not bad for a tiny island with a big appetite.
From flaky pastizzi and rich rabbit stew to imqarrun il-forn and freshly baked ftira, Maltese cuisine punches well above its weight when it comes to comfort food with character.
Nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean, Malta’s food blends the best of its neighbours with bold spices, fresh seafood and soul-warming oven bakes, and makes it completely its own.
Claiming the number one spot on the list was Greece with a score of 4.6. Italy followed closely with 4.59, then Mexico and Spain.
So next time you’re tucking into a golden-baked ftira or biting into a warm mqaret, know that you’re tasting one of the world’s best cuisines – officially.
