Malta’s Favourite Mexican Restaurant Has Closed Its Doors

Bad news for lovers of Mexican food. Frida, Malta’s go-to place for authentic Mexican cuisine, has closed its doors. Located outside the Ta’ Xbiex yacht marina, Frida proved to be an immensely popular restaurant for work lunches  when it opened its doors two years ago- serving up dishes such as tacos, quesadillas and churros at a relatively cheap price. However, its owner has now decided to shut it down after growing disappointed at how his idea to offer Maltese people authentic Mexican street food had evolved.

“I wanted to expand people’s tastebuds but the product didn’t match the location,” Sebastian de la Fuente told Lovin Malta. “I wanted people to feel as though they were walking into a genuine Mexican food joint, but because of the location I ended up having to Malta-ify my product, with waiters serving the food and wine-tasting events.”

De la Fuente is currently weighing up his options, but isn’t ruling up setting up another, more authentic, version of Frida somewhere else in Malta in the future.

Until then, this is a reminder of what Malta is missing…
