The 2017 Best Chef Awards shortlist has been announced, and it’s a list of the top 300 chefs from all over the world. And among all those chefs, there’s one name of particular interest to us; David Vidal, representing Malta!

Vidal was born in Canada and moved to the island when he was 12. He studied at the Institute of Tourism Studies, and after gaining some experience he moved to Sweden. For the past years, he’s been living in Sweden, and is currently a Sous Chef at Laholmen Hotel in Strömstad, Sweden.

“It means a lot just to be among those huge names, chefs that I look up to so much,” David told Lovin Malta. “I never thought I’d ever get on a list like this.”

The Best Chef Awards, with over 500,000 likes on Facebook, shared the complete list of nominees on Tuesday. Vidal recently started being a bit active on Instagram, and has already amassed a following of 185,000 followers. Vidal is also a member of the Culinary Team West of Sweden and will be representing the team at next year’s Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg. Yes, there’s a Culinary World Cup, and it sounds amazing.

The Best Chef Awards will take the list of 300 chefs down to 100 throughout the month of September. On the 25th of October, the winner will be announced live from Warsaw. David, best of luck!
