As the weather gets warmer and festivals and other outdoor activities flourish, food trucks are blooming once again – and lowkey, they can offer some of the best dishes on the island.

From BBQ smokeries to to exotic Thai dishes and even classic ftajjar, here are 10 of the best food trucks on the island in no specific order.

1. Saigon, Ta’ Xbiex

Get your chopsticks ready to sample some delicious Vietnamese and South East Asian food. From Tofu Bao Buns to Korean crispy fried chicken and Thai curries, Saigon hits the spot time and time again.

2. EAT, Mosta And Pembroke

The vintage truck and cast iron smoker are an attention puller as anyone can see the level of detail these people have gone through to create their product.

Their mostly carnivorous food offerings don’t disappoint either with a tasty array of US-style BBQ including pulled meats, Philly Cheese Steak and, of course, really good classic burgers. And the view from their Mosta location is just the cherry on the cake.

3. Krepree, Pama Shopping Village

If you feel like something a decadent this place is a haven for sweet and savoury crêpes as well as Belgian style waffles alongside a wide variety of tasty fillings.

4. Avotaco, Ta’ Xbiex

This food truck has been doing the rounds for a few years and is now elevating its brand by opening non-mobile eateries.

The food is inspired by traditional Mexican taquerias and restaurant experiences blended by Executive Chef Andre Camilleri’s culinary touch. A wide range of burritos, chimichangas, tacos, salads and quesadillas is available for the Mexican experience. Muy rico!

5. Two Guys Burger Bar, Xemxija

“I try to keep it simple” the chef told me about the menu while he quickly rubbed some Angus mince into a ball.

“It’s a burger bar and I make smashed burgers. Either classic or Oklahoma style. Oklahoma style is when you cook the beef with thin slices of onion”. He then smashed the meatball down into a burger and placed it on the grill.

6. Thaibar Food Truck, Mrieħel

Do you ever get the urge for a Thai curry? That eye-watering complexity of the spices, the tenderness of chicken cooked in coconut milk and honed with Thai basil. I want it now!

Don’t worry there’s a food truck all set to sort you out with you favourite Thai nosh. And if you don’t want to go to Mrieħelm Wolt can deliver it over to you.

Introducing Ftajjar, the new kid on the block who has only been around for six weeks but seems to be killing it! This Maltese chef has taken a unique spin on one of Malta’s fave foods and is attracting attention with his crusty open ftira akin to the Gozitan open faced model.

These cheesy morsels have an innovative variety of filling including slow cooked beef cheeks. Excited yet? He is also available for special events.

9. Maxtar, Żebbuġ

Wholesome, homemade food that won’t break the bank and will take you back to your childhood memories in the most delicious way.
