Mellieħa’s Beloved American-Style Hot Dog Institution Is Closing Down This Week
Hidden away in a small side-road on the steep hill of Mellie?a lies one of Malta’s most dedicated hot dog establishments – if only for one more week, as the building their restaurant is housed in is set to be demolished.
Grand Slam Chilidogs is a family-friendly hot dog institution in the north of the Maltese islands with an American baseball theme, loved by one and all for its welcoming atmosphere and super friendly service.
Serving out big, tasty hot dogs slathered in their glorious homemade beef chilli, thick nacho cheese, a mixture of raw or fried onions and every applicable sauce you could desire, the iconic outlet is set to close down on Sunday 4th of November.
Grand Slam’s was a baseball-themed institution that served comfort-food in hot-dog form
Made with love and attention, this was many people’s go-to place American hot dogs in Malta.
Their over-the-top nachos were the kind of thing you craved on a rainy day
There are hot nacho cheeses, then there is the Grand Slam nacho cheese.
And the crispy bacon among the mountain of meat on the nachos just makes everything better.
The owner’s love for baseball made the place stand out in a country full of copycat designs
Between the small size of the restaurant, warm friendliness of the owner herself – she would often give out free chocolate chip cookies just because – and momma’s-style food, this is one special establishment that won’t be easy to replace once it’s gone.
