New Social Cafe At Pendergardens Wants You To Put Your Phone Down And Savour The Moment
In most circumstances, the opening of another cafe would be nothing to write home about. Yet the new U&Co social cafe at the Pendergardens complex in St Julians’ has a rather ambitious concept about it – it wants to counter the digital revolution and become the place in Malta for people to chill out and speak to each other face to face.
“We feel the need to bring people together, to interact in person, in a time where communication and socialising has become more cyber than ever before,” the cafe says on its website. “We believe that U&Co will be a place for friends to catch-up, for families to eat out, for business partners to discuss or for individuals to simply enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine – to unwind from a hard day. U&Co is a social cafe, a social place, where people meet, interact and enjoy the moment. Different people with different lifestyles will come together here, where time will be spent in a cheerful and relaxing way, enjoying company – sharing moments. Eat. Laugh. Share. Savour the moment, experience our vision.”

Spread over two floors and an outside area and served by a new public car park, U&Co is one of those cafes whose description as a cafe doesn’t exactly do it justice. It puts a lot of effort into its food too, serving up tantalising items such as poached eggs with smoked salmon, focaccias with bresaola and fresh herbs, salads with stir-fried marinated beef, homemade fish burgers and swordfish-stuffed ravioli.
It also caters for people who just want to chill out over a drink, with several wines, cocktails and coffee cocktails on offer, as well as platters to nibble from.

“We do not want to be considered ‘just another’ place to eat. Our goal is to become ‘the place to meet and feel great’ where our guests will feel recognised and special,” the cafe says. “U&Co will not just be the ‘newest place in town’ but we want to create a new and fresh approach to delivering on our promise! The satisfaction of our customer is at the core of everything we do!”
The cafe is one of the first retail outlets within the luxurious Pendergardens complex to open to the general public. Optika Opticians has already opened its fourth branch there, while Valyou Supermarkets and Hertz Car Rental have also confirmed they will follow suit in the near future.
