Spend more than a couple of weeks on this tiny rock we call home, and you’ll come to realise the intense passion Maltese people have for pastizzerias. And while the flaky namesake is definitely a favourite, you can’t disregard those beautiful, oily square-shaped pizzas. This week, one man took to Facebook to show photos of a desecrated specimen… but alas, it was all for a great cause.

It all started with a normal photo of a Maxims pizza that many locals have seen before, but ended up becoming so much more.

Titling his Facebook post ‘Pizzas Maxims surprise’, the man shared a series of photos showing his process of turning the traditional snack into a mega burger

Cutting nearly perfectly circular holes in the popular Margherita with olives, the man goes on to place one “pizza bun” over and another under one of those burger patty reminiscent of BBQs on sandy beaches during Malta’s summers.

In case that wasn’t enough, he even throws in a slice of bacon for extra measure.

Among the man’s friends list, the reactions were as varied as you’d expect.

Some could hardly find the words to express their amazement, commenting on how much of a heart attack the entire thing must taste like. But others recognised the genius of it all.

Calmly replying to it all, the Maltese man just replied that, for all intent and purposes, he saw this as “just a normal cheeseburger.”
