POLL: Which Food Group Reigns Supreme In Malta?
Throughout our young lives we learnt a lot of pointless information about food groups and the quantities we should consume them in.
But what if you were faced with the ultimate decision to only have one for the rest of your life? This is the ultimate showdown of Maltese food groups.
Scroll down to take our poll.
1. Carbohydrates
- Ħobża
- Timpana
- Ftira
- Patata l-forn
- Ross il-forn
The staple group, and still so delicious. Also the main reason we’re so great at being obese.
2. Protein
- Rabbit
- Octopus
- Lampuki
- Tuna
- Braġoli
And basically all the amazing fish and shellfish from our seas. The traditional meals may not include a lot of meat, but the ones that do are to die for.
3. Dairy
- Ġbejniet
- Irkotta
- Fresh milk
- Benna yogurts
Growing up, we never really had a problem with calcium deficiencies. From deliciously flavoured milk, to all kinds of ġbejniet – we always got the dairy we required.
4. Fruit and vegetables
- Naspli
- Strawberries
- Figs
- Prickly pears
- Qaqoċċ
- Kappunata
- Tomatoes
- Qarabagħli
We may not always be big on salads, but our selection of fruit and veg has always been great. And with so many of the above grown locally, it doesn’t get fresher.
5. Fats and sugars
- Pastizzi
- Maltese sausage
- Prinjolata
- Figolli
- Pudina tal-ħobż
- Kannoli
- Qagħaq tal-għasel
- Ħelwa tat-tork
