RECIPE: From X Banter To X Factor Coconut Balls
So the X Factor Malta is in full swing right now; with two episodes already under its belt, Maltese audiences have been treated to everything from nail-bitingly amazing auditions to some of the most cringeworthy scenes to grace Malta’s TV screens in recent history.
In honour of the X Factor’s arrival and our weekly after show X Banter, we decided to turn our weekly Instagram show BASIC(ally)’s focus to creating X Factor coconut balls. Now before you get your high hopes up, this is a simple coconut ball recipe in plated in an X-shaped arrangement because #art.
Pull out your aprons, turn on your Sia (sigh-ah?) music playlist and load up Lovin Malta’s Instagram story: we’re making coconut balls.
To make X Factor (or non-X Factor for that matter) coconut balls you will need:
- 2 packets of biscuits (graham crackers, digestives or similar)
- 2 tins of condensed milk
- 2/3 cup of cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup of desiccated coconut (plus a little more for dusting)
To kick things off, grab your biscuits and grind them into a coarse crumble. Once completed broken apart, add your 2/3 cup of cocoa powder and the 1/3 cup of desiccated coconut. Mix well to make a homogenous mixture.

Now it’s time to add your condensed milk, pouring in small amounts each time until you have a sticky but malleable dough. Once your ingredients have been thoroughly mixed, grab chestnut-sized dollops and roll them into a ball shape, and then roll them into the leftover desiccated coconut before shoving them into the fridge for 30 minutes to chill.
Gurl, same.
And there you have it! A coconut ball recipe that shouldn’t take you more than 30 minutes to complete (but took us over two hours because we’re incapable AF).
