Welcome To Gozo: 9 Best Restaurants You Need To Visit ASAP In Mġarr Harbour

As Gozo season is heating up we decided to focus a bit on our sister island – and what better place to start than Mġarr Harbour where the adventure really begins?
Welcoming you to Għawdex is the iconic bar Gleneagles with its panoramic terrace where you can soak in the view and chill your body temperature with their delicious Negronis. Around here several restaurants have mushroomed throughout the years providing a great variety of gastronomical choice for different tastes and budgets.
Today we’ll explore some of these options in no particular order.
And now you can even book your next dining experience at select eateries on Lovin Restaurants via Bookia. Find restaurants just like this and more on Lovin Malta’s awesome food directory Lovin Restaurants.
1. Ta’ Tona
Just round the corner from Gleneagles we find Ta’ Tona, a fine seafood restaurant. Their creative concoctions keep them busy pleasing the taste-buds not only of the visitors but even the locals who know that the produce is fresh and the preparation professional.
2. Sammy’s, Il-Kċina Tal-Barrakka
Sammy’s is another restaurant specialising in seafood (Mediterranean island and all that).
This little shack with its little veranda has satisfied many a rumbling stomach with its traditionally Gozitan slant on cooking fish but also meat and pasta dishes.
3. Ta’ Philip
Although technically in Għajnsielem, Ta’ Philip is just round the corner from all these seafood shacks and is quite renown for his meat dishes, slow cooked in a wood burning oven.
They also own a fine wine cellar which you might get the fortune to visit.
4. Tmun
Tucked away at the back of a car park this award winning restaurant is a hidden treasure that won’t fail to surprise your senses.
The menu is based on the produce, which chef Paul Buttigieg transforms into delectable works of art.
5. One80 Kitchen
This restaurant lies between Mġarr harbour and the yacht marina. It has a vibrant vibe to it and lively harbour views. Oh and excellent food. But don’t just take my word for it, go and check it out.
6. Country Terrace
This gorgeous secluded restaurant is the epitome of living on a Mediterranean Island. Hanging over the harbour with sweeping views across Comino and Malta it is the ideal date where you get spoilt with fine food and wines and let love conquer you.
7. Sicilia Bella
This Sicilian Restaurant has some of the Sicilian magic that those guys do with fish. If you are feeling nostalgic about your last visit to our neighbouring island or just miss the food this is the place for you.
8. Fuli Kiosk
A bit up the road moving towards Victoria on the left there is a kiosk that seems to have been there forever, Fuli Kiosk. It is a happy stop for a quick snack offering genuine fast food with some healthy alternatives at very affordable prices.
9. Rexy Restaurant
Yet a bit further up the road towards Victoria in what would be considered Għajnsielem but still close enough to the ferry, the unassuming Rexy has been dishing out a vast menu ranging from English breakfast, pasta, ribs, pork chops and beef fillet to Gozitan specialities such as Aljotta (Fish Soup) and the seasonal Lampuka Pie.
Somehow they manage to keep it together and make a good job out of it while keeping some of the friendliest prices on the island. Really worth a visit.
As you can see Mġarr is geared up to give you the perfect welcome to your Gozo vacay and also to bid you farewell before you head back to reality.
Or just leave your car in Ċirkewwa and have a pleasant evening strolling around this magnificently nostalgic harbour.
