Support Your Local Bidwi By Dining At One Of Malta’s Top 12 Restaurants Using Local Produce

Article Featured Image

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but it’s just so darn vital to say: it’s really important to support local farmers by making use of local produce as opposed to imported.

A big reason for this is that locally grown fruit and veg are generally way healthier; imported produce might look prettier, but that’s because it’s generally full of chemicals – and why would you want that inside your body?

This doesn’t mean that you have to limit yourself to just home-cooking, though, which is why The Definitive(ly) Good Guide To Restaurant In Malta & Gozo has listed the 12 top Maltese restaurants that are “most dedicated to supporting local produce”.

The restaurants were judged based on three criteria: the local produce purchased, the amount of local produce and the variety of local produce used. So here are the top 12 restaurants around Malta which offer great food with a distinctive local flavour:

12. Meraki

Rabat

Meraki‘s food is not only local, but it’s also incredibly satisfying both to look at and to feast on.

11. La Buona Trattoria del Nonno

St. Paul’s Bay

Head over to Saint Paul’s Bay and check out La Buona Trattoria del Nonno, if you haven’t already. Their ribs are killer, so be sure to order that with a side of veg and potatoes – locally grown, of course!

10. de Mondion Restaurant

Mdina

If that totally Instagrammable dish is calling out your name, head on over to de Mondion Restaurant for a guilt-free, fine dining experience.

9. Busy Bee

Mrieħel

Busy Bee‘s Imrieħel outlet has recently turned a year old, which makes this the perfect time to drop by and have a look at all the local goodness they have on offer.

8. Le Bistro

St. Julian’s

Whether you’re super hungry and craving a hearty meal, or you’re just in the mood for a quick snack, Le Bistro most definitely has something to satisfy your needs.

Now, I’m not a big fan of shellfish, but that bowl of local mussels looks absolutely wondrous even to me. So the next time you’re in Gozo, be sure to check out The Boathouse Restaurant in Xlendi.

6. Capo Crudo

Valletta

Speaking of seafood, if you’re a fan, you should definitely head over to Capo Crudo in the capital for some of their delicious delicacies. And the fact that they make use of a bunch of local produce makes it all even better!

Diar il-Bniet is awesome not just because the name is funky and their decor is really homey. What’s most impressive is the fact that their produce comes straight from their very own farm, which takes home-grown produce to a whole other level.

As close as you can get dining out and feeling like you’re still at nanna’s.

3. Phoenicia Hotel
