Talented 16-Year-Old Maltese Private Chef Stuns Clients With Delicious Dishes
A young and talented Maltese chef has launched his own business as a private chef at just 16 years old and he spoke to Lovin Malta to share this incredible adventure that he’s only just embarked on.
Jake Caruana launched his business as a private chef in early December of last year and he “quickly caught people’s eyes” as many were “immediately interested”.
Since then, he started to see the changes happening as clients started accumulating and he was invited to cook on live TV, just a week after his launch.
He’s since appeared twice on Niskata, live on TVM.
Jake’s love for cooking started very early and that comes as no surprise considering his mother is none other than Maria Sammut – local chef patron of Michelin Mention Fifty Nine Republic who was also awarded WRMC Top Chef in 2023.
“My mum was the one who lit the fire at the start but I naturally continued to excel in my skills on my own, constantly mentored by my mum and always experimenting and visiting different countries and restaurants helped me a lot as it always inspired me to create new things,” Jake explained.
“I started cooking from a very young age – maybe 7 or 8. I was always interested in cooking so I quickly picked up the pace and started accelerating in my early teens and started showing major interest and improvement at around 12 to 13 years old.”
And while it’s only been a month since Jake made this step, he’s been delighted by the response.
“At the moment it’s been a month since I officially ventured out as a private chef but I already have a good number of clients and even more are interested.”
When it comes to his favourite dish to cook, the youth explained that he loves to experiment with pasta – one of the island’s most beloved foods.
“One main dish I love to cook is pasta in general. I love to incorporate different flavours into the pasta itself and I also created a few artistic pasta designs.”
Meanwhile, the French and Mediterranean cuisines are definitely among his favourites.
When asked about his goals and dreams for the next five years, Jake assured that his focus is on being a private chef but other adventures are still in the books as long as the opportunities arise.
“At the moment I’m focussing on being a private chef but I do not exclude the possibility of going abroad for experience, even for a short time, as it will help me grow as a person and expand my knowledge in the world of food.”
“Nevertheless, I will continue to seek every opportunity to travel because going to different restaurants inspires me to create new dishes and overall to create an open network of people.”
He also admitted that he is searching for clients who are interested in having a private chef on their yacht for the summer.
