This weekend, Zion in Marsaskala will be hosting the One Drop Festival, which is set to celebrate reggae music and Caribbean culture. Between skanking to the badman sounds and grabbing some unique cocktails, you’ll finally be able to get your hands on some legit jerk BBQ in Malta.

Though tons of international cuisines can be found on the island nowadays, the country is still lacking the incredible taste of jerk BBQ.

Jerk is a Jamaican style of cooking, with bright and spicy flavours straight from the Caribbean. The Jamaican jerk spice mix is often times dry-rubbed onto a piece of meat, usually chicken, before getting thrown onto the BBQ to become even more awesome – and you can now taste it for yourself this weekend.

“We’ll be offering Jamaican inspired street food, BBQ with jerk chicken and rice and beans. There’s there’s the jerk wrap, jerk bean burger and of course Mamma’s vege curry. Spiced, juicy and delicious,” Dragana, one of the organisers, told Lovin Malta.

Apart from the BBQ, they’ll also be offering other unique flavours, including a specially dedicated rum bar as well as some incredible Ethiopian coffee from Kefa’s Coffee.

And if you still haven’t had your fill, you can even sign up for the Mojito-making workshops – that should keep you fresh throughout the weekend.
