The ‘Beer Mile’ Is The Running And Drinking Event We Never Knew We Wanted In Malta

Ready, set… drink?!

You might be fooled into thinking that physical activity and the consumption of alcohol wouldn’t match under any circumstance, but get ready to be proven wrong. Malta will soon see the arrival of The Beer Mileand it’s exactly what it sounds like.

Participants must drink a 330cl can of beer and immediately run a 400 metre lap of the track. Repeat the process four more times and you’ve got a total of four beers, one mile, and one hilariously unique race.

The event is set up in waves of six to eight participants leaving every 10 minutes, which means you can either challenge other runners (and drinkers), or you can join friends for teams of up to four people. And yes, you can go twice. Life is good.

Hellfire Events, the people behind bringing the Beer Mile to Malta, say the event is scheduled to kick off at 9am and end “at 1pm or when we run out of participants”, which makes us think this is going to be one long fun day of partying and solidarity. Of course, as the organisers stressed, “this is a sporting event, not a drinking event”, so misbehaving participants will be disqualified.

The Hellfire Beer Mile is going down on the 25th of June in Triq tal-Qroqq (Msida), close to the University of Malta. More information can be found on the official Facebook event page.
