Article Featured Image

When the World Cup comes around, there’s no better place to watch the games than in an Irish pub. The atmosphere in an Irish pub is electric during the World Cup, with fans of all teams coming together to watch the games and support their team. There’s nothing like watching the games with a pint of Guinness in hand and cheering on your team with fellow fans.

There’s a great sense of camaraderie in the air as everyone comes together to watch the games. The atmosphere is always lively and festive, making for a great experience. So make sure to head to your local Irish pub to watch the games and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere.

Below I list the top three Irish Pubs to watch the World Cup at…

1. The Crafty Cat – St Julian’s

The Crafty Cat is arguably one the most frequented Irish pubs in Malta. An intimate atmosphere and Irish staff – there’s no better craic’ in town.

With craft ales, IPA’s and local favourites – you’ll find over ten beers on draught here.

As is often the case with the very best Irish bars. The Crafty Cat regularly plays host to live music, pub quizzes and top quality banter. The bar itself is intimate, which means you’re more than likely to meet and speak to everyone there on any given evening.

The not-so Irish food menu incorporates pub favourites and classics from chicken wings, to building your own burger and various sides and sharing platters.

The pub quizzes usually hosted by event organiser and amateur stand-up comedian, Ali Storm have become a mainstay favourite with locals and are usually packed to the rafters.

If you’re planning to watch the World Cup anywhere. This place ticks all the boxes. The Crafty Cat has sister bars including; The Hoppy Hare in Mosta, Down The Rabbit Hole in Msida and The Hatter in Gżira.

2. The Dubliner Irish Pub – St Julian’s

A mainstay in Malta over the past few years. The Dubliner is a quintessentially Irish pub with food to match.

A dark wood interior, mostly Irish staff and multiple screens to watch the football – you can’t really go wrong with a visit to The Dubliner.

This pub arguably sells the most Guinness out of any Irish pub in Malta. The food menu has a variety of classics from Steak & Ale pie to Fish & Chips and the bangers and mash are perfect on a cold day when you just want some comforting homemade food.

You can view their food menu online here.

Set over two levels, you’ll be hard-pushed to find a seat, so ensure you get down there early prior to kick-off.

A variety of liquors are available at The Plough & Anchor

Though not necessarily an Irish bar, Plough & Anchor makes the top three due to its unbeatable variety of whisky.

Owned by the same Maltese family for over 45 years, the Plough and Anchor is a quaint ‘old-man pub’ with a rich history.

Photos from past and present hanging from the walls, a collection of Toby Jugs hanging from the ceiling and nautical equipment adorning the pub – it’s a great place for a quiet pint. And to just sit and have a look around.

Set across two levels, there’s the option for more privacy upstairs where you can watch football with your mates. Or get snug downstairs with the expats, locals and tourists.

Ask the owner George about “the cat who travelled to Australia and back”;  there’s plenty of history here with a wide selection of drinks.

Tag a friend who you want to watch the World Cup with!
