The Ultimate Guide To Surviving St.Patrick’s Day In St. Julian’s

St. Patrick’s has pretty much become an adopted Maltese national holiday by now.

Tomorrow is set to be for many people to remember (or kind of anyway). Every year, the Spinola Bay ‘Love Sign’ area is literally closed down and packed with thouands of people enjoying a day drinking and partying in the sun.

If you’re going out and taking part in the festivities, make sure to join the fun responsibly. And while we’re at it, here’s an essential guide to surviving this very long, very busy day.

1. It’s on a Saturday!

Its finally on the weekend.

For the first time since 2012, St. Patricks Day falls on a Saturday, and you should make the most out of this. With hopefully no responsibilities hindering you throughout the day, you will be free to relax and enjoy yourself. This also means that the partying starts earlier. Much earlier.

2. Wear Green

Come on, don’t be a spoilsport!

St. Patrick’s Day comes but once a year, and it’s not like we’re not telling you to find a leprechaun outfit and go crazy. Just find yourself a green top or pants and slap those suckers on.

You’ll feel better for it. If you don’t you might get deservedly pinched!

3. Eat before you go out

St. Patricks Day is known to get very crowded, especially around the Spinola Bay area. We would suggest at least making sure you have some food inside your belly before leaving the house.

There will be dozens of delicious food stalls available, but just so you know, queuing for food amongst scores of hungry people in the middle of the party might take some time.

4. Parking

Of course it’s going to be a nightmare.

Try get there early, and take a bus, taxi or maybe even walk from a friend’s house.

Do not drink and drive. Good luck.

5. Peeing

Keep in mind you will be drinking mostly beer, probably Guinness.

You’re going to have to go, and once those flood gates open there is no closing them. Be mindful of where the bathrooms are and try to be respectful of others.

6. Drinking

There’s going to be beer and there is going to be a lot of it.

The bloating, the peeing, the hangover are all coming your way.  Make sure you know your favourite drafts and brands beforehand, and when ordering pay attention to the offers.

The annual Guinness St. Patrick’s Day hat is always a neat reminder of the day ahead.

7. Clubbing

When you’re finally done from being outside and drinking in the sunshine, it’ll be time to hit the clubs.

With Paceville just up the road, head on there when it starts to get late. Just be sure to walk on the pavements and have yourself a fantastic night.

8. Getting home

Getting home safely is something we all owe ourselves and each other.

Please don’t drink and drive. There’s no need to ruin your night or anyone else’s. Be safe and stay safe. No need to overdo it; let’s just have a great time!
