There’s A Very Tasty Reason Why This Rabat Street Has Everyone’s Laundry Just Hanging Around

Article Featured Image

Hanging out your laundry is an old-standing tradition that can still be spotted in certain parts of Malta. But while you might see a house or two doing it, you’re never really going to see an entire street just hang all its laundry out at the same time. That is, unless you’re in this one street in Rabat.

Late last night, a Facebook post showing dozens of clothes just hanging off lines was shared online. Taken in the historic centre of the sleepy northern town of Rabat, the photo was simply captioned U fl-aħħar in-naxra lesta, sparking people’s curiosities. As more photos of the street appeared online this morning, the reason behind the sight became clearer… and tastier.

As it turns out, the hanging clothes are part of the area’s prepping for Napule, an annual Italian festival for all things pizza.

Yes, you heard that right.

Now in its third edition, Napule brings together some of the best Italian pizzaioli and chefs from Naples for a night of good old #FoodPorn from the peninsula.

Seeing attendees through the night will be a mix of live music entertainment, and don’t worry; if you somehow don’t like pizzas (shame!), there will also be pasta, burgers, and sweets up on offer (not to mention roast pork and Neapolitan porchetta).

The free food festival will go down this weekend, specifically on Friday and Saturday. Promising a night of Italian food, music and traditions, the festival has already garnered a great deal of attention in what you’d expect to be its least appetising feature; hanging laundry.

Harking back to earlier this year when a Żabbar street turned the Shade Meter all the way up with dozens of colourful umbrellas for its street party, the Rabat Laundry Street (that’s what we’re calling it, you’re welcome) has already started appearing all over Instagram.

So if you want to get take your Instagram feed to the next level while simultaneously taking your taste buds on an unforgettable adventure, you know where you need to be this weekend.
