This One Night Only Pop-Up Dinner In Valletta Is Going To Satisfy All Of Your Truffle Desires
The gloriously odd-shaped yet utterly flavoursome truffles are having a bit of a moment in Malta right now. You can find truffle on burgers, pizzas, steak, and pretty much all foods in between. But one Maltese chef has decided to take truffles where they’ve rarely gone before.
Fran Farrugia from BAKED is hosting Sweet Truff, a one night only pop-up dinner dedicated to, you guessed it, all things truffle. Along with Christian Musu from Truffles & Co., Fran is set to take over Calamata in Valletta for a night dedicated to truffles seen in a new, unique way.
The menu is unlike anything you’ve seen before
“Sweet Truff is going to be a four-course truffle journey, made up of unusual yet delicious pairings which one wouldn’t expect, including a sweet truffle-infused dessert,” Fran told Lovin Malta. “Although truffles are going to be the main highlight of the dishes, every component will shine through.”
The fresh black and white truffles are coming straight from Italy, so their quality is assured, and they are going to be put to good use.
“We’re gonna have stuff like homemade truffles sauces, truffle honey and even truffle ice-cream,” Fran beams.
This is the second event in Fran’s ‘Sweet’ series
“Last year I held another pop-up with a friend of mine, Michele Zahra, who specialised in smoked meat. My speciality is baking, so we decided to go for the name Sweet Smoke combining the two,” she said. “We decided to keep the same name this time, but of course including truffles.”
And the rest was history, with the ‘Sweet’ name sticking – but with Fran’s desire to try new combinations of flavour, it comes as no surprise.
“I’m always looking for new opportunities to work with people and cook, and when I tried the truffles from Truffles and Co. myself this seemed like the ideal collaboration,” she ended.
