Three new restaurants run by students studying at the Institute of Tourism Studies have been unveiled at the new ITS site in Luqa. Runway, The Voyage, and The Apron will be serving up some interesting food and drinks from the 22nd of October, when they will officially be launched.
Each restaurant offers up different grub, with students cooking up a selection of refined to traditional dishes at affordable prices. It also gives students a chance to get some experience working in a real restaurant, with paying customers.
The restaurants are fully equipped to let the students’ creativity shine
Students from various culinary, pastry-making, management and service programs handle the preparation of the dishes and desserts, as well as their service, as part of their practical courses.
The restaurant’s opening hours are in accordance with the class schedule and study programmes, which also means that the menu changes throughout the year.
The Voyage Restaurant
One of the Institute of Tourism Studies’ training restaurants, this restaurant aims to showcase students’ multitude of acquired skills, from the art of plating food to that of composing dishes right in front of the custom.
“Open for both lunch and dinner time, the Voyage offers a rotational prixe fixe menu. Mouth-watering recipes are prepared by the students on the day, and it is reflective of the students gastronomic interest and exposure. During the evenings, one can expect to take a tasting menu journey which shall consist of not less than six house made courses ranging from an amuse-bouche to a set of delicately prepared petit fours.”
Runway is set to reflect the true aspirations that ITS students have for their studies in the culinary world and showcases their talents and their passion towards food and drink, coupled with a true hospitality flair.
“The menus change periodically, serving a set three-course meal which is composed of a starter, main course and dessert, accompanied by a selection of in-house baked bread. The Runway restaurant is open for lunch daily during, and is also open for Tuesday dinner, where ITS Degree in Culinary Arts students will exhibit a refined menu offering, designed by themselves.”
Apron Grab & Go
The Apron ‘Grab & Go’ offers speedy hearty meals to those on the go. Students prepare an array of meals, whereby the ‘Tavola Calda’ section of the outlet, offers a selection of cold and hot meals, whereas the café section offers space to those who just want to snack.
“With its outdoor area, The Apron ‘Grab & Go’ serves as the perfect space for patrons to hang out and socialise within the Institutes premises.”
The restaurants were unveiled during an inauguration of the new ITS campus
Minister for Tourism Dr Konrad Mizzi along with UNTWO Secretary General, Mr Zurab Pololikashvili, inaugurated the site, which is being used until the new purposely built ITS site in Smart City, Kalkara, is built.
The new site has an improved wireless IT infrastructure, as well as classrooms equipped with modern audio-visual technology, as well as a better security plan.
