Underrated Gem: Eight Delicious Restaurants You Need To Visit In St Paul’s Bay
St Paul’s Bay, in my opinion, is one of the nicer bays in Malta, with its scenic views of St Paul’s Islands.
It’s long promenade makes for lovely seaside walks and there are countless pretty spots where you can have a dip to cool down from the searing heat.
After a nice swim and chill on the beach, with the sun making its way down, the pangs of hunger start to stir in the stomach. Luckily there are plenty of watering holes.
I concentrated on the ones in the centre of St Paul’s – not Buġibba, Qawra and Xemxija, which probably deserve their own guide.

Here are eight of the best restaurants – in no particular order – in St Paul’s Bay.
1. Is-Simenta
This iconic beach bar/restaurant has been there since my childhood. We used to play table soccer and buy chips – which we drenched with vinegar and pepper.
Now it looks much fancier and has classy food but some things – such as the pager that calls your name when the food is ready – have survived . Oh, and they have a taxi boat if you want to go to St Paul’s Islands to escape the crowds.
2. Loa
The signature restaurant of the newly refurbished Sirens Waterpolo Club has been very well planned and thought out. The lovely views, live DJs and focus on South American food make the meal more of a surprise and an experience.
You can even try Peruvian Ceviche!
3. Ostrica Nera
Another upcoming restaurant taking over a well-worn fish restaurant which was famous in its own right, Il-Gillieru.
Sitting on the edge of the sea, unsurprisingly, it focuses on seafood – with a wide range of Crudi and a large display of fresh fish to choose from.
They do also have some nice land food options for those not so fond of what the deep blue has to offer.
4. Ta’ Bertu
This cosy little restaurant is often full with patrons looking for Ta’ Bertu’s take on Maltese cuisine – which focuses on freshly made slow-cooked food.
Praises for their Maltese platter resound across these lands.
5. La Buona Trattoria Del Nonno
This family run trattoria, on the grounds of the palace known as Palazzo Pescatore, offers quality Italian fare. Their wood-burning oven is great not just for making crusty pizza but also for roasting meats.
Their ribs are out of this world.
6. Da Rozi Restaurant
Da Rozi has been there for decades, and is renowned for its delicious seafood.
This awarded restaurant has lots of loyal patrons – which has to mean something in terms of the consistently high quality of their food.
7. Made In Sud
This Neapolitan pizzeria has made a name for its authentic pizza and other Italian specialities – with customers travelling from all over the island to sample its cuisine. Even Italians have compared it favourably to the pizza found in Naples.
8. UMI
Looking over the pier, UMI produces Asian fusion dishes with verve and panache. From Sushi to Ramen, Teriyakis and Bao Buns, both the palate and the presentation are impeccable.
