Valletta Named 16th Best City For Foodies Worldwide – Beating Rome And Barcelona
Forget Venice, Chicago, Prague, and Buenos Aires – if you’re looking for some really good food, it looks like you just need to head to Valletta.
In a new Global Foodie Index ranking 150 cities around the world for “the best destinations for unbelievably tasty food”, Malta’s capital city has been ranked 16th, beating some of the planet’s most popular cities for food.
“Many people sometimes choose to travel to a specific place primarily to try new food,” the travel and food blog wrote.
Featured in a number of publications around the world from CNN to The New York Times, the foodie family has everything from rankings to podcasts.
And it sure looks like Malta, particularly Valletta, has left a massive impact on them.
In fact, there isn’t one single city in Italy – known as an international hub for foodies – that managed to beat Valletta, with Venice, Milan, and Rome landing on the 28th, 29th, and 43rd.
Sitting at the very top of the list of best cities is Tokyo, Paris, and Bangkok, with the three coming out on top after five different criteria were taken into consideration.
Tokyo and Paris in particular came out on top with their total Michelin-starred restaurants, sitting at over 420 each.
Interestingly, however, Valletta ranked much higher than the top three cities when it came to the cost of a mid-range meal for two, with its $80.90 average ranking fourth-highest in the Top 20, behind New York ($100), San Francisco ($85) and London ($82).
